How we help

OHES Enviromental same day response

Same day response

We know how stressful an oil loss at your property can be. That's why we aim to respond to your oil loss on the same day you contact us, and we will tailor our response to your individual circumstances.

We're available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Assessment of damage

Our first step is to carry out an investigation to map out where the oil is and understand what impact it's caused to your property. This allows us to assess what has happened and how we will fix it.

We will compile a suitable report for submission to your insurance representative or loss assessor, to ensure the process runs smoothly and delays are minimised.

Remediation

Following our assessment and receiving instruction from your insurance representative, we will carry out remediation works to remove the oil that is causing a risk to your property.

An important part of the remediation process is to collect samples to validate the works carried out and demonstrate that all risks to your property have been addressed.

Oil spill at your home

Oil spill at your home

We understand that your home is your most valuable possession. If you find or detect an oil leak, then you should act quickly and contact us to help limit the damage and disruption. The quicker the leak can be dealt with, the less damage there will be to your property and the surrounding area.

Advice if you've had a spill at your home

DOs

  • Call OHES
  • Turn off your oil supply at the tank
  • Try to stop the leak at source if you can
  • Put a suitable container under any dripping oil to contain it
  • Prevent spilled oil from spreading by using absorbing material such as sand, cat litter or commercial products
  • Try to establish how much oil has been lost; check the level of oil in the tank, consider how much you use and when you last had a delivery. Refer to recent oil delivery documentation
  • Ventilate. If there’s a strong smell of oil in your home, ventilate the areas by opening windows and doors
  • Keep a record. Take photos and note any actions you take and dates, as this will be helpful when dealing with your incident

DON'Ts

  • Don’t use liquids, detergents or a hose to wash the spill away
  • Don’t drink the water if you think your water supply or pipework may have been affected
  • Don’t let any children or pets near spills or oil patches
  • Don’t get oil on your skin or clothing
  • Don’t put any items soaked with oil into your bins or waste containers. Store these separately until they can be disposed of correctly
  • Don’t try to remove any remaining oil by yourself
  • Don't put yourself or your home at risk by using less reputable companies

If you think the oil has or could enter drains or a watercourse (including groundwater, ponds, rivers, loughs, estuaries or coastal waters), then you should contact us and the relevant local authority.

Commercial spill

We understand the importance of limiting any business disruption, cost, or reputational damage. If you find or detect an oil leak at your business, then you should act quickly and contact us. The quicker the leak can be dealt with, the less impact there will be to your business and the surrounding area.
