This project resulted from a road traffic accident, where a domestic fuel delivery tanker had rolled over onto its side. The oil from the tanker had leaked out onto the road and surrounding area.
The road ended up being closed and we were asked to secure the remaining contents in the tanker and ensure a correct clean-up of the road and area.
Before the tanker was turned back onto its wheels, we assisted with the offload of the oil from inside the damaged tank. One of our specialist spill teams helped in ensuring the correct procedures were followed in cleaning up the oil and that waste was disposed of correctly.
Our team and their swift response ensured no oil managed to make its way into any of the drains or nearby water and rivers.
Upon completion of the clean-up works, we ensured that the relevant authorities were happy with the work undertaken and the road reopened that evening.
Our involvement in this incident at an early stage, along with our extensive expertise in dealing with tanker rollover incidents, prevented further significant loss of oil when trying to recover the stricken tanker. This helped to prevent extensive damage to the road surface and pollution to the nearby ground and watercourses.
Overall, our contribution resulted in an outcome which protected the environment as well as the reputation of the fuel tanker company and their insurers.
